Road markings you must know

Road markings are part of the Road Signs section in the learner’s test. Learn what each marking means and what you must do.

Barrier lines

Solid barrier line

Do not cross a solid barrier line.

Broken line

You may cross a broken line when it is safe and legal to do so.

Stop lines and pedestrian crossings

Stop line

Stop before the stop line when required by a stop sign or red traffic light.

Pedestrian crossing

Be prepared to stop and give way to pedestrians using the crossing.

Edge lines

Yellow edge line

Marks the edge of the road. Do not drive over it except where permitted.
